Bomo Koral Park
About Bomo Koral Park
Recreational Features
Located near the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard and Flower Street, Bomo Koral Park covers 10.40 acres of green space, providing a nice spot for Santa Ana locals looking to enjoy the outdoors.
The multi-purpose field works well for a variety of sports, though you'll need to wrap up your games before sunset as there's no lighting for nighttime play. Baseball and softball enthusiasts can take advantage of the ball diamond, while the fields often transform into venues for soccer and football tournaments during busy weekends.
Family-Friendly Amenities
If you've got little ones in tow, the playground area is a must-visit spot. Designed with both tots and older kids in mind, this space offers climbing equipment and slides where children can play and burn off energy. It's typically buzzing with families, especially on sunny afternoons.
Need to stretch your legs? The park features several walking trails that loop around the grounds, excellent for a casual stroll or a brisk morning jog. Parts of the park have some gentle hills, adding a bit of welcome variety (and maybe a slight challenge) to your walk.
When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas scattered across the park. The tables are kept in good condition with regular maintenance and fresh paint, but on busy days you might need to arrive early to snag one - locals often mention that a few more tables would be a welcome addition.
Visitor Information
The park does offer parking, but plan accordingly if you're visiting during tournament days - spaces fill up quickly when sporting events are in full swing.
One thing to note: there aren't permanent restrooms at Bomo Koral. Portable toilets sometimes make an appearance during organized sporting events, but it's best to plan ahead for your bathroom needs.
As you'd expect, the usual park rules apply here: no alcohol, no smoking, and no unauthorized vending or events to keep the space enjoyable for everyone.
Dog-Friendly Environment
Dog parents, rejoice! Your four-legged friends are welcome at Bomo Koral Park. The expansive grassy areas and walking paths provide plenty of room for pups to explore, whether your dog is a social butterfly or prefers a quieter corner away from the action.
Historical Significance
Behind the name is a story worth knowing. The park honors Bohumil Ben "Bomo" Koral (1909-1981), a key figure in shaping Santa Ana's recreational landscape. As the city's Parks Superintendent, Bomo played a crucial role in developing many of the parks and recreational facilities that Santa Ana residents enjoy today.
Beyond his professional contributions, Bomo was a decorated Army veteran who received two Purple Hearts for his bravery during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. His athletic prowess as a softball player and coach, coupled with his dedication to youth recreation programs like Pop Warner football, cemented his legacy in the community. The City of Santa Ana dedicated this green space to honor his remarkable contributions - a fitting tribute to someone who devoted his life to creating places where people could play and connect.
