About Southwest Community Park
Park Overview
Set in Santa Rosa, California, Southwest Community Park spans a generous 19.75 acres along Hearn Avenue. While you might notice some wear and tear here and there, this well-loved community space still represents a vibrant gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. Think of it as that slightly worn-in favorite sweater - comfortable, familiar, and still doing its job perfectly well.
Recreational Amenities
The park features a sprawling grass area that's well-suited for leisurely afternoon strolls, impromptu picnics, or just lounging with a good book. Sports fans, you're covered too - the park offers a baseball/softball diamond, a basketball court, and a soccer field for your athletic pursuits.
Whether you're part of an organized league or just rounding up some friends for a casual game, these facilities are available for use. The soccer fields on the south side get particularly busy during tournaments and community games, creating an energetic atmosphere.

Walking Paths
Feel like stretching your legs? The walking paths meander through the grounds, offering a pleasant route for your morning jog or evening constitutional. These paved trails make navigation easy, but you might encounter a few bumps and cracks along the way - just adds character, right?
Picnic Areas
When hunger strikes, head to one of the park's many picnic spots. Planning something special? There's a reservable gazebo picnic area for organized gatherings. For more spontaneous outings, plenty of tables are available on a first-come basis.
Fire up the barbecue facilities and enjoy an al fresco meal surrounded by greenery. The pavilion area with BBQs and tables frequently hosts community celebrations and family get-togethers.
Family Facilities
Kids getting restless? The playground at the north end of the park offers an ideal outlet for all that boundless energy in a safe environment.
Regarding four-legged family members, there are some rules to note. Dogs must be leashed and are only welcome in designated areas. While pups are permitted in the dirt parking area, they can't roam freely throughout the entire park. Just a heads-up: enforcement of these rules can be a bit relaxed at times.
ADHidden Sonoma County: Redwoods, Cheese, Coast, and Artisan Picnic
Embark on a private, small-group adventure through West Sonoma County’s hidden gems—ancient redwoods, artisan creamery, scenic coastal backroads, and a gourmet beach picnic with local charcuterie and wine. Cap it off with an optional boutique wine tasting at day’s end.
Visitor Information
When nature calls, you can find restroom facilities conveniently located on the north side of the park. During soccer events, portable options sometimes appear on the south side too - not glamorous, but they do the job.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10PM. You'll come across parking available off Hearn Avenue, however spaces can fill up quickly during popular times or special events - arriving early never hurts!
Community Value
At its heart, Southwest Community Park is a true community cornerstone, hosting everything from quinceañeras to soccer tournaments. During summer months, you might even catch ice cream vendors adding a sweet touch to warm afternoons.
Yes, occasionally maintenance struggles to keep pace with the park's popularity - trash bins might overflow after busy weekends, and some facilities show their age. But these minor flaws don't diminish what matters most: this park continues to provide Santa Rosa residents with a valued green space to gather, play, and simply be.
