About Strathearn Historical Park

Step Back in Time

Strathearn Historical Park is a charming window into Simi Valley's past. Run as a partnership between the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District and the Simi Valley Historical Society, this quiet place preserves the area's heritage and history.

At the heart of the park stands the Simi Adobe-Strathearn House, once the headquarters of Rancho Simi (a Spanish government land grant). Built in the early 1890s, this historic home remained with the Strathearn family until 1969 when it was donated to the Simi Valley Recreation and Park District.

Walking Through History

As you wander this open-air museum, you'll encounter several preserved buildings that tell the story of early Simi Valley. The Simi Adobe holds the distinction of being the oldest structure in the entire valley.

The park features historical buildings including the Printz/Powell Colony House, a Strathearn Windmill, the Currier Apricot Pitting Shed, Wood Ranch Barns, and a Pioneer Memory Garden. Many of these are original buildings housing artifacts, period furniture, and clothing that show what settler life was like in early California.

You'll also find a lovely gazebo area and a chapel that serve as picturesque backdrops for weddings. The historic barn transforms into a wonderful venue for receptions and community gatherings, often twinkling with lights during evening events.

Discover the Stories

If you're interested in learning more, docent-led tours run Fridays at 1 PM and weekends at 1:30 PM for just $5, giving you access to building interiors. Prefer to explore at your own pace? A free audio tour is available during open hours - just scan the QR code at the main gate or Visitors Center.

The knowledgeable guides share fascinating insights about the Chumash people (the area's original inhabitants), as well as the property's evolution through different eras. It's a great educational experience whether you're eight or eighty and have an interest in local history.
