About Grant Mahony Park
A Peaceful Urban Retreat
Located in the heart of Vallejo, Grant Mahony Park feels like a breath of fresh air amid the city bustle. This public green space, nestled near the intersection of Mariposa and Illinois Streets, has a little something for everyone who wanders in.
The park honors Grant Mahony, a hometown hero from Vallejo - a veteran and World War II ace combat pilot who served his country with distinction.
Walk the Mystical Labyrinth
Perhaps the most intriguing feature here is the Seed of Life Labyrinth, which made its debut in July 2020. This isn't your average park feature! Spanning 35 feet in diameter, this circular labyrinth was crafted by Master Labyrinth Builder Lars Howlett and follows the medieval 7-circuit Chartres Essence pattern.
Tall sycamores cast welcome shadows over the labyrinth on sunny California days, creating an ideal spot to clear your mind with a walking meditation. Some locals have nicknamed it the yoga maze - and it really does offer a surprising pocket of tranquility in the middle of community life.
ADNapa Valley Redwood Hike
Napa Valley is home to some of the most beautiful hiking trails in wine country, and they go hand-in-hand with a wellness weekend in wine country. Join us for a guided hike that features native flora and fauna, seasonal tributaries, and an abundance of wildlife.
Stop and Smell the Roses
The Grant Mahony rose garden is honestly worth the visit all on its own. When those blooms are showing off, the vibrant colors and sweet scents transform this neighborhood park into something special. The roses are beautifully maintained, adding splashes of color throughout the space.
The Greater Vallejo Recreation District has thoughtfully added benches and lighting around the labyrinth, making it even more inviting for an afternoon of relaxation. The recent lighting upgrades along the walkways have really enhanced the whole experience, especially during evening hours.
Get Moving
If you're bringing kids along, you'll find a modern play structure that's best suited for children 6 and up. The playground features soft mat surfacing to cushion any tumbles. Just keep in mind that if you have tiny tots, the equipment options might be somewhat limited for them.
The open grassy areas are great for an impromptu picnic, playing catch, or walking your four-legged friend. For the more actively inclined, the park offers basketball courts and table tennis facilities to get your heart rate up.
You'll appreciate how clean and well-maintained the grounds are - it's clear the park is cared for. One thing to note: there aren't any public restrooms available, so plan accordingly.
The park welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM but takes a breather on weekends when it's closed.
