Park Overview

Camino Real Park is a 38-acre public park located in Ventura, California. Situated at the intersection of Dean Drive and Varsity Street, this expansive green space offers a variety of recreational facilities and natural areas for visitors to enjoy.

The park features open grassy areas ringed by pine trees, providing ample space for picnicking, relaxation, and informal sports activities. Along the northern border of the park, a line of eucalyptus trees follows a barranca (a steep-sided gully) and Aurora Drive.

Natural Attractions

The eucalyptus trees serve as resting places for migrating Monarch butterflies in late fall and winter, adding a unique seasonal attraction to the park.

Camino Real Park is considered a hot spot for migrating birds, vagrants, and rare species, making it a point of interest for birdwatchers and nature observers. The park is home to resident species such as the Spotted Dove and Allen's Hummingbird, adding to its appeal for wildlife enthusiasts.

A scenic walking path winds along the barranca, offering a peaceful trail that makes visitors feel tucked away from the city among tall pine trees and natural surroundings.

Dog Park

In the southwest corner of the park, there is a fenced dog park divided into separate areas for small and large dogs. This off-leash area allows dogs and their owners to socialize and exercise in a controlled environment.

The dog park includes amenities such as drinking fountains for both dogs and humans, benches, and waste disposal facilities. Mature trees provide ample shade for both pets and owners, creating a comfortable environment even on warmer days.

Parking & Accessibility

Camino Real Park offers plenty of parking spaces throughout the grounds, making it easily accessible for visitors. The park is open daily from 5 AM to 9 PM, allowing for extended use of its facilities.

While the park itself is well-maintained, some visitors have noted that the roads and parking lot surfaces could use improvement.
