About the Location
Sports Facilities
Spanning just over 30 acres, this community park has become something of a local sports haven. At its heart, you'll find five baseball and softball diamonds that are kept in pretty good shape and come equipped with lighting for evening games - convenient if you want to play a few innings after work.
These fields regularly host everything from competitive league matchups to casual weekend games. Beyond baseball, there's also a versatile multipurpose field where you can kick a soccer ball around or toss a frisbee. While the baseball facilities are generally well-maintained, fair warning: the seating can be a bit uneven between sides, and you might want to bring a cushion for those hard bleachers.
Children's Areas
If you've got kids in tow, head to the west side where you can find a clean, well-kept playground area with all the classics - slides, swings, and climbing structures that will keep the little ones entertained for hours.
The playground has rubber padding beneath all the equipment instead of wood chips that tend to find their way into shoes. Families with toddlers will appreciate the tot swings specifically designed for the smallest visitors, ensuring everyone from big kids to tiny tots has a space to play safely.
Amenities
For practical matters, you'll discover restroom facilities and a picnic shelter that make longer visits much more comfortable. The covered picnic area sits next to the playground and has multiple cement picnic tables and four to five BBQ grills - useful for weekend cookouts.
The shelter provides welcome shade during Colorado's sunny days, and you can find plenty of trash cans throughout (always a plus). Additional tables and benches are scattered around the grounds for when you just need a moment to sit and catch your breath.
Outdoor Experience
The expansive green spaces here are ideal for just about any casual outdoor activity you can imagine. Parking is generally easy to find, however you might want to arrive early or late if there's a baseball tournament happening - the lot tends to fill up around midday.
One thing to note: the park could definitely use more trees, especially near the playground. Shade can be hard to come by on hot days, so bring your sunscreen and maybe a portable umbrella. Dog owners will be happy to know the park is dog-friendly, with plenty of space for leashed pets to explore alongside their humans.
Highline functions as both a sports complex and a green space within Aurora. Nearby residents often use it for evening strolls and midweek breaks.
