About the Location
Your Neighborhood Retreat
Tucked away at 1200 N. Nome St in Aurora, Colorado, Nome Park may be small (just 0.8 acres), but it packs a surprising punch as a green haven in the urban landscape. This small community spot has grassy areas and trash bins throughout to help keep the environment clean during your visit.
Adventure Awaits: The Nature-Inspired Playground
The nature-inspired playground offers logs and ropes that create obstacle courses different from typical playground equipment. What we love about this design is how it challenges children of different ages while building their confidence as they explore.
The sand-filled rock area is a standout feature, letting little ones hop from log to boulder in a play environment that feels refreshingly natural. You'll also find a multi-seat spinner (always a hit), a charming log seesaw, and a balance beam for budding gymnasts. The rubber-surfaced bumps add another dimension of fun to the mix. If you have toddlers, you're in luck - the playground seems perfectly sized for the youngest adventurers.
Stay Fit While the Kids Play
A short walk from where the little ones are playing, you'll discover the Fitness Zone - a thoughtful addition that lets adults get their exercise in while keeping an eye on the children.
The bodyweight resistance-type training equipment in this permanent outdoor gym is well-maintained. It's a practical feature that allows adults to exercise while supervising children.
For sports enthusiasts, the park offers a large sports field and a basketball court, giving visitors of all ages space to stay active. No matter if you're organizing a casual family game or just tossing a frisbee around, the sports fields provide plenty of room to move.
Grow and Gather: The Community Garden
The park includes a community garden where you can find locally-grown produce. What's particularly wonderful is the pay-what-you-can model, making fresh food accessible to everyone in the neighborhood.
If you've got a green thumb or want to develop one, there are volunteering opportunities to help tend this community resource. The garden is well-maintained and adds a unique dimension to what this park offers.
New in 2022: Park Makeover
Nome Park got some exciting upgrades in 2022, including a multi-purpose plaza featuring a basketball court, a peaceful meditation labyrinth, chess tables for the strategists among us, and a skate feature for those who prefer wheels under their feet.
The renovations also brought new playground equipment, expanding the fun possibilities for visitors. Across the park, you'll discover walking paths and art installations that add character and additional recreational options.
A Note on Safety
It's important to know that Nome Park has faced some challenges. In November 2021, there was a shooting incident that injured six teenagers, which led to increased safety measures and community attention.
Before You Go
While you'll come across several nice picnic spots and eating areas throughout the park, note that there are no public restrooms with running water available, so plan accordingly for your visit.
