About the Location
History and Legacy
Formerly known as Canyon Park, this 2.4-acre urban park was renamed in 2013 to honor Emma Gomez Martinez, a long-time activist and advocate for the Hispanic community in Boulder since the 1950s.
The park's history dates back to the post-World War II era when the land was initially used for Quonset hut apartments to house soldiers attending the University of Colorado Boulder under the G.I. Bill.
Natural Features
Emma Gomez Martinez Park features lush greenery, mature trees providing ample shade, and well-maintained grassy areas. A scenic creek flows through the park, adding to its natural charm and creating a peaceful atmosphere for visitors.
The sound of running water contributes to the park's tranquil environment, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and contemplation.
Facilities and Improvements
In 2024, the park underwent renovations, including updates to its playground. The new playground incorporates natural play elements, encouraging children to interact with nature while enjoying recreational activities.
This renovation reflects the city's commitment to providing modern, engaging spaces for families and children within its park system.
