About Grant - Frontier Park in Denver
Grant-Frontier Park is located in Southwest Denver, Colorado, along the South Platte River. The park holds significant historical importance as the site of Montana City, one of the earliest settlements in the Denver area established during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1858.
The park underwent extensive renovation and expansion in recent years, transforming it into a rich, multifaceted recreational space. The redesign focused on weaving together various narrative threads, much like the braided channel of the river itself. The park now features a series of terraces marking different flood elevations, which also describe the ecological zones from aquatic to riparian to upland.
A key feature of the park is the Montana City interpretive area, which pays tribute to the region's pioneer history. The park also includes a secondary channel sculpted from the existing landscape, leading to the river and improving access to the water. A concrete jetty was constructed to enhance river accessibility.
Grant-Frontier Park now offers a blend of historical elements, natural features, and modern recreational facilities. It provides visitors with opportunities to learn about local history, enjoy nature, and engage in various outdoor activities. The park's design aims to create one of the richest park experiences along the South Platte River in the Denver metro area.
