About the Location

A Mile-High Space with a View

Perched in southwest Denver, Ruby Hill Park spreads across 80 acres of urban greenspace. Named after Ruby Hill itself - a 5,390-foot elevation point within the park - this spot offers excellent panoramas of Denver's skyline against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.

Since the city acquired the land back in 1954, Ruby Hill has evolved from a simple hilltop into a well-used community space. If you're an early bird or sunset chaser, you're in for a treat - the views of downtown Denver and the mountain range are absolutely magical during these golden hours.

Winter Wonderland (No Mountain Drive Required)

When snow blankets Denver, the Ruby Hill Rail Yard transforms this urban park into a space for snowboarding. With rails, boxes, and jumps for everyone from first-timers to seasoned riders, it's like having a piece of the mountains right in the city.

The Rail Yard typically operates from January through March (snow gods willing) and has been a winter staple since 2007. The best part? It's completely free - including equipment rentals and instructors to help you find your snow legs. Meanwhile, the park's prominent hill becomes Denver's go-to sledding destination, where kids and adults alike can experience the simple joy of zooming downhill without the mountain traffic headache.

Summer Fun Under the Colorado Sun

As temperatures climb, Ruby Hill sheds its winter identity for summer adventures. Mountain biking enthusiasts flock to the Ruby Hill Bike Park, a 7.5-acre playground opened in 2016 featuring slopestyle courses, dirt jumps, pump tracks, and skills areas suited for riders of all abilities.

The park doesn't skimp on the classics either. Cool off in the seasonal swimming pool, challenge friends to a game on the basketball court, or catch a ball at one of several baseball fields. The playground features three distinct sections designed for different age groups, making it convenient for families with children of varying ages.

Soundtrack to Your Summer

One of Ruby Hill's standout features is the Levitt Pavilion, an outdoor amphitheater that debuted in 2017. This cultural hub brings the community together through numerous free concerts that fill summer evenings with music under the stars.

With space for up to 7,500 people, the pavilion has become a significant cultural asset for Denver. The setup includes a substantial stage with screens and plenty of lawn space where you can spread out a blanket or set up chairs. During performances, food trucks and drink vendors line the perimeter, creating a festival atmosphere. The venue hosts an impressive variety of musical styles and cultural performances throughout the season, with many events costing absolutely nothing to attend.

Community Heart

Ruby Hill isn't just about recreation - it's a neighborhood anchor. The park's community garden gives locals a chance to flex their green thumbs and grow their own food. Winding walking trails take advantage of the park's natural topography, offering both a good workout and scenic perspectives of the surroundings.

Scattered across the grounds are several picnic areas, including a spacious gazebo with tables that's well-suited for family gatherings or birthday celebrations. While some sections could use more shade trees, you'll discover enough covered spots to enjoy an outdoor meal comfortably. Portable toilets are stationed throughout, with permanent restrooms available near the playground and picnic zones.

Denver continues to invest in Ruby Hill Park, continuing to update its facilities. Open daily from 5 AM to 11 PM, the park provides outdoor recreation options within the city.
