About the Location
Park Overview
Set in southeast Fort Collins, Twin Silo Park spans a generous 54 acres of community space. Opening in November 2017, this park (Fort Collins' seventh community park) features a design that reflects the area's farming roots.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 11PM, giving you plenty of time to explore its creative play areas, sports facilities, and peaceful natural spaces. Whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or a quiet afternoon outdoors, Twin Silo has a little something for everyone.
Iconic Silos
As you might guess from the name, the stars of the show are two 48-foot tall farm silos that were carefully relocated from nearby Prospect and Timberline Roads. But these aren't just decorative relics - they've been cleverly transformed into what might be the coolest play structure in town, featuring a double-helix spiral stairway and, yes, the tallest slide in Fort Collins.
The slide starts in one silo, wraps around in two complete spirals, and finishes in the second silo. It's a hit with older kids and even adults who haven't lost their sense of adventure. Just note that the inside of the silos can be a bit dark, so you might want to keep that in mind if you're bringing little ones.
Playground
The playground here goes beyond the standard swings-and-slides setup. It features farm-themed elements that connect to the area's agricultural history.
Beyond the showstopping silo slide, you can find a zipline that never seems to have a shortage of eager riders, various climbing challenges including cargo nets and rope webs, several types of swings (including some designed for parent-child tandem swinging), and a substantial seesaw. Much of the play area sits under shade structures - a blessing during Colorado's sunny summer days.
While kids of all ages can find something to enjoy here, the playground really shines for children 5 and up. Younger adventurers can certainly participate, but some of the structures might require a bit more parental spotting.
Natural Areas and Water Features
A small stream runs through the grounds. Its banks have been specifically designed to be kid-friendly, allowing for safe wading, splashing, and even impromptu crawdad hunting during the warmer months. It's a wonderfully calm alternative to the energy of the main playground.
The park also embraces its agricultural theme with community gardens and a small orchard, giving locals a chance to get their hands dirty. Throughout the grounds, you can find lovely flower gardens and native plantings that not only look beautiful but also support local wildlife.
Recreational Amenities
Throughout Twin Silo Park, you'll discover paved recreational trails excellent for walking, jogging, or biking. These paths connect to Fort Collins' larger trail network, making it easy to extend your outdoor adventure beyond the park boundaries.
For meals or snacks, you'll find multiple picnic areas, including a covered pavilion with built-in grills. You'll also find numerous tables scattered across the park for more casual dining. These spots make for perfect family gatherings, and the pavilion can be reserved for special events.
Restroom facilities are located near the playground, with water bottle filling stations for those hot summer days.
Sports Facilities
If you're into pickleball (and who isn't these days?), you'll appreciate the well-maintained pickleball courts that accommodate players from beginners to seasoned pros.
For team sports enthusiasts, the park offers baseball and soccer fields suitable for both organized games and casual play. Expansive grassy areas provide plenty of space for throwing a frisbee or setting up an impromptu game of tag.
One unique feature that sets Twin Silo apart is its BMX track, which particularly appeals to older children and teenagers looking for a bit more excitement.
Dog parents haven't been forgotten either - a dedicated off-leash dog park with separate sections for small and large dogs means your four-legged family members can enjoy Twin Silo just as much as you do.
Design and Recognition
Twin Silo Park's design focuses on sustainability and community. The natural areas with native plants connect to Fort Collins' agricultural heritage.
As you explore, you'll notice educational elements throughout the park that offer insights into local history and ecology.
The park's innovative approach hasn't gone unnoticed - it's received awards from both the Colorado Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association for its creative design.
