About Hockanum Park
Recreation for Everyone
Nestled along the picturesque Hockanum River, Hockanum Park spreads across 62+ acres of East Hartford, Connecticut. This spacious green area has a variety of features, whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply enjoy some fresh air.
The park features the Terry 50 Meter Pool and High Dive - a popular spot where local residents go to cool off when temperatures rise. It's a welcome relief from those sticky Connecticut summer days.
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the six dedicated pickleball courts in excellent condition, which regularly buzz with players throughout the day. The park doesn't stop there - you'll also find basketball courts and a free tennis court open to the public, no reservation needed.
Trails and Natural Beauty
If you prefer a more leisurely pace, the park connects to the broader Hockanum River Linear Park Trail system. This 3.5-mile network features a mix of boardwalk and stone dust paths, ideal for morning jogs or afternoon strolls.
The trail stretches from Hillside Street all the way to the Meadow Hill Station on Pitkin Street, offering plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife or simply clear your head. It's particularly popular with dog walkers - so don't be surprised if you make a few four-legged friends along the way.
ADPrivate Historic Yale Smart Phone Self Guided Walking Tour
Founded in 1701 Yale is the 3rd oldest institution of education in the USA, and some would say the most secretive. On our adventure I’ll guide you to New Haven’s historic spots including Yale’s old campus, the New Haven green, The inventors of the Hamburger - Louis Lunch, Grove Street Cemetery and many more.
Useful Amenities
Planning to make a day of it? The park includes modest green spaces ideal for spreading out a blanket and enjoying a meal outdoors. While the picnic area isn't huge, it's perfectly adequate for small gatherings, with a small grill area tucked into one corner of the park for cooking up some burgers or hot dogs.
You'll also find a pavilion that provides welcome shade on sunny days, and playground swings where kids can burn off excess energy. The facilities here are straightforward but get the job done - sometimes that's all you need.
Getting here is easy, with parking available at multiple locations including Hillside Street, Martin Park, Elm Street, and Town Hall. If you're heading for a pickleball match, you'll be pleased to know there's good parking specifically near those courts.
Community Hub
The park is frequently used by East Hartford residents for organized sports, family outings, and walks along the river, offering a natural space within the urban-suburban area.

There’s nothing more intimately haunting than a colonial burial ground and Mystic boasts some of the most fascinating and haunted burial grounds around. Whitehall Burial Ground established in the 1660’s was one of the common burial places of Mystic until the rural landscape movement arrived to Mystic in 1854.
