A Riverside Retreat

Located along the Anacostia River in DC's Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, The Yards Park is a 5.4-acre space offering a break from the urban hustle. Completed in 2010 as part of the Navy Yard annex transformation, this waterfront park has become an important gathering place for the surrounding community.

Splash-worthy Water Features

As you enter the park, you'll be greeted by the Dancing Fountains - playful jets of water that provide a fantastic cooling respite during DC's notoriously humid summers. The kids (and let's be honest, plenty of adults too) love splashing through these fountains, which light up after dark for an enchanting evening display.

The centerpiece of the park is the Canal Basin and Waterwall, a thoughtful nod to the historic canal that once connected the Anacostia to the U.S. Capitol Building. This wading pool invites you to kick off your shoes and dip your toes in the water while soaking up some sunshine.

Stunning Design Elements

Crossing over the water via the sculptural bridge is an experience in itself. This distinctive structure doesn't just connect different areas of the park - it's a popular photo spot for visitors.

The Great Lawn provides ample space to spread out a blanket for an impromptu picnic or simply lounge with a good book. When you need a break from the sun, you'll find plenty of shady spots with wooden benches scattered throughout the area.

Everyday Enjoyment

The overlook area comes equipped with bistro tables and chairs, offering a peaceful perch to take in the river views - great for morning coffee or evening contemplation.

Four-legged friends aren't forgotten either, with a dedicated dog run where your pup can socialize and burn off energy off-leash.

For the more active visitors, the quarter-mile boardwalk along the park connects to the larger Anacostia Riverwalk Trail system, making it ideal for a scenic jog, leisurely stroll, or bike ride along the water.

Community Connections

During the year, The Yards transforms into a vibrant venue hosting concerts, festivals, and outdoor fitness classes that bring neighbors together.

The park has received recognition from the Urban Land Institute and other organizations for its combination of natural elements, design, and community spaces.
