About the Location
Park Overview
Positioned in Clearwater Beach, Florida, McKay Park is a cozy 1.68-acre green space that's been a local fixture for more than four decades. Despite its modest size, this little park packs in plenty of recreational options while maintaining a laid-back vibe.
One of the best things about McKay? It sits just across the street from the beach and offers convenient parking - meant for when you're planning a day of outdoor fun but don't want to deal with the usual beach parking headaches.
Current Renovations
Heads up if you're planning a visit in 2024 - McKay Park is currently undergoing significant renovations to give its facilities a much-needed refresh. The park is evolving to better serve both locals and visitors alike.
During this makeover phase, you might find some of the playground equipment temporarily out of commission. The children's area is getting some special attention, so the slides and swings might be taking a short break while improvements are underway.
Pickleball Courts
The six dedicated pickleball courts are a highlight of McKay Park. The courts feature good playing surfaces and fences between each court to prevent stray balls from neighboring matches from interrupting your game.
Pickleball enthusiasts will appreciate the shade structures between courts (a blessing during those sunny Florida days) and the handy paddle racks at each court. There's even a system for designating different skill levels, making it easier to find appropriate playing partners whether you're just starting out or consider yourself a pickleball pro.
Recreation Areas
Beyond pickleball, the park offers a versatile open grassy area that's well-suited for everything from impromptu frisbee games to yoga sessions or simply lounging with a good book.
Feeling hungry after all that activity? The park features several picnic tables where you can enjoy a packed lunch or simply take a breather in the shade.
Location Advantages
One of McKay Park's biggest perks is its prime location near Clearwater Beach. You can easily split your day between park activities and beach time without having to relocate your car or travel far.
This proximity to the shoreline gives you the best of both worlds - enjoy the structure and amenities of the park, then take a short walk to feel the sand between your toes and splash in the waves.
