About the Location

A Park with History

There's something special about spending time in a place with deep roots, and Warfield Park certainly has those. As the oldest park in Fort Lauderdale, it actually predates the city itself - the park was created in February 1911 by the Florida Fruit Co., a whole month before Fort Lauderdale even got its official charter. Talk about being ahead of the curve!

Ever wonder about the name? The park honors S. Davies Warfield, a railroad executive and banker who made his mark by extending the Seaboard Air Line Railway through South Florida in the 1920s, connecting Florida's east and west coasts. Here's a fun bit of trivia: he was the uncle of Wallis Warfield Simpson - yes, the same woman who King Edward VIII gave up his throne to marry. History runs deep here!

Get Your Game On

The park features a full-size basketball court with lights for evening play, so you can keep the game going even after sunset.

The athletic field provides space for team sports, whether you're joining a casual pickup game or practicing your skills.

Kid-Friendly Fun

Bringing the little ones along? The park's playground area offers a safe space where kids can climb, slide, and burn off some energy. It's a great spot to let children explore and play while you take a moment to relax nearby.

Room to Breathe

The park's open grassy areas provide plenty of space to spread out a blanket for a picnic, toss a frisbee around, or simply find a shady spot to read a book. There's a nice balance between designated activity zones and open spaces where you can do your own thing.

Community Hub

At the heart of the park stands the Warfield Community Center, which hosts neighborhood activities and programs. This 3.6-acre green space is located in the South Middle River neighborhood near Sunrise Boulevard.

Practical Stuff

Planning to spend a few hours here? You'll appreciate the public restroom facilities available on-site. It's these little conveniences that make longer visits much more comfortable.

The park's location is pretty ideal - it's easily accessible to multiple neighborhoods and sits close to Northside Elementary School, making it a natural meeting spot for families and friends throughout Fort Lauderdale.
