Amelia Earhart Park
About Amelia Earhart Park
Park Overview
Nestled just north of Hialeah, Florida, Amelia Earhart Park spans a generous 515 acres of urban greenspace in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. Established in 1980, the park bears the name of the legendary aviator who embarked on her final flight from Miami in 1937.
This expansive park combines natural beauty with recreational diversity, offering a good escape for families, outdoor enthusiasts, or anyone needing a peaceful break from Miami's fast-paced energy.
Water Activities
With five lakes spread within the grounds, Amelia Earhart Park has one of the county's largest collections of water features. The showstopper is definitely the 90-acre freshwater lake equipped with cables for wakeboarding and water skiing - great for thrill-seekers and water sports enthusiasts.
The Miami Watersports Complex offers everything from equipment rentals to lessons for beginners wanting to test the waters. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, try fishing from one of the piers or rent a boat to explore the lakes at your leisure.
Keep an eye out for the RC boat racing that takes place on the lakes - it's surprisingly captivating to watch these miniature speedboats zip across the water.
Land Recreation
Not a fan of getting wet? No problem. The park has 8 miles of mountain bike trails that wind through varying terrains. No matter if you're just starting out or consider yourself an expert rider, there's a trail with your name on it. Many cyclists consider these some of the best trails in the area - a hub for the biking community.
You can also test your aim at the 18-hole disc golf course or kick a ball around on one of the several soccer fields. The wide-open spaces are ideal for flying kites, organizing an impromptu volleyball game, or simply throwing a frisbee with friends.
Kids will love the Bill Graham Farm Village, a charming spot featuring a petting zoo, pony rides, and a replica farm that offers a glimpse into Miami-Dade's agricultural heritage. The farm village typically welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday until 3:00 PM.
Amenities
The park includes a 5-acre fenced dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs, allowing pets to socialize safely.
Scattered within the park are numerous picnic shelters, many complete with grills - making this a fantastic spot for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or just a weekend cookout with friends. These pavilions range from cozy nooks ideal for intimate gatherings to spacious areas that can host hundreds of guests.
Kids have plenty of options with multiple playgrounds distributed across the park grounds, catering to different age groups and interests. Weekend visits offer additional treats like bike rentals, swan boat rides, and a delightful mini-train that never fails to excite younger visitors.
Restrooms are available around the park, but you might occasionally find some closed for maintenance - something to keep in mind when planning your visit.
