About the Location

Sports and Recreation

This 8.3-acre community park has a variety of amenities. The lighted basketball courts are a major draw, especially after 4:30 PM when they come alive with friendly competition. Fair warning though - these three courts fill up fast, so you might want to arrive early to claim your spot.

The park includes a baseball field designed for children 12 and under. For the little ones, there's a newly renovated playground (updated in 2022) with modern equipment, plus a wet tot-lot where they can splash around and cool off. Just a heads up - while the playground is well-equipped, it doesn't have swings.

There's also a swimming pool on the grounds, however it's currently out of commission and waiting for repairs - something to look forward to in the future.

Community Facilities

Walker Park has a two-story community center that hosts recreational programs and activities, including summer camps for local kids. The modern e-library offers computers and hundreds of books - making it a quiet spot to study or read.

The park's walking paths wind around the grounds, good for a morning jog or evening stroll. The picnic areas offer outdoor spaces where you can have a meal surrounded by greenery.

Visitor Information

You can find ample parking when you visit, which is always a relief. Restrooms are available across the park, but take note that they close at 7:30 PM, earlier than the park itself. The park is pet-friendly, with many locals walking their dogs along the paths.

Historical Significance

The park bears the name of James Silas Walker, affectionately known as "Pop," who served as a City councilman and dedicated community activist. Walker Park also hosts the City of Hialeah's Annual Jose Marti Parade, which honors the Cuban historical figure and his significance to the Cuban community.

History buffs might also appreciate the park's monument dedicated to the Federation of Exiled Cuban Freemasons - a reminder of the area's rich cultural heritage.
