About the Location
History and Background
Located in the heart of Hialeah, Florida, Milander Park spans a generous 19.26 acres of recreational space. The park bears the name of Henry Milander, who guided the city as Mayor for nearly three decades - first from 1941-1945 and then from 1947-1974.
This green space is popular for both organized sports and laid-back outdoor fun. Year-round, the park comes alive with city-sponsored events. The Fourth of July celebrations bring the community together, while the annual Halloween festivities transform the space with rides, bounce houses, food trucks, and family-friendly trunk-or-treat activities.
Sports Facilities
Athletes and sports enthusiasts will find plenty to love at Milander Park. A major feature of the athletic facilities is Ted Hendricks Stadium, which regularly hosts local high school sporting events throughout the academic year.
With room for 10,000 people and equipped with a scoreboard and seating, the stadium accommodates local sporting events. Beyond the stadium, you can find basketball courts complete with sheltered seating areas and well-maintained football fields.
On any given day, you might spot locals enjoying a casual game of spikeball or parents watching their children of all ages practice soccer on the open fields.
Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment
The park also includes the Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment. This versatile venue hosts everything from intimate weddings to theatrical performances, large conferences, and community events.
The center encompasses around 34,500 square feet dedicated to exhibits, special events, and performances. Its centerpiece is a spacious auditorium that seats over 1,000 people and boasts excellent acoustics, making it ideal for gatherings of all kinds.
As you wander near the auditorium, take a moment to appreciate the whimsical metal sculptures of dancing fairy creatures that add an artistic touch to the landscape.
Aquatic Facilities
In the northeast corner of the park, you'll come across a well-appointed aquatic center that makes a splash with locals. The Olympic-size pool features fun slides, while little ones can enjoy a special wet tot lot designed just for them.
The pool area is clean and well-maintained, with helpful staff. The aquatic center is affordably priced at $3 for a daily swim or $30 for a monthly pass.
Playground and Recreational Areas
Families with young children will appreciate the covered playground that's both updated and securely fenced - ideal for containing energetic toddlers while they play to their heart's content. The equipment is in great condition, offering a safe space for kids to burn off energy and make new friends.
For a more peaceful experience, find your way to the fountain with its circular benches. It's an excellent spot to sit for a while, perhaps with a book or coffee, as the soothing sounds of cascading water create a tranquil backdrop.
Amenities
The practical details at Milander Park don't disappoint. You'll come across clean, modern restrooms that are well-lit and spacious - a detail that can make or break a day at the park.
A dedicated parking lot serves visitors, but it can fill up during popular events. When that happens, overflow parking is available at the nearby high school and library.
Dog owners, you're in luck - the park is dog-friendly with plenty of open areas where your four-legged friends can get some exercise. Just remember to keep them leashed and clean up afterward.
As a bonus, the park sits right next to the Kennedy Library, where you can explore artwork by local artists or find additional recreational opportunities when you're ready for a change of scenery.
