GENA Park
About GENA Park
A Bit of History
GENA Park sits nestled in the Englewood area of southeast Jacksonville, Florida. If you're wondering about the name, it actually stands for Greater Englewood Neighborhood Association - the passionate locals who championed its creation.
The park came to life through a grassroots effort between GENA members and Suzanne Jenkins, a City Council member who previously served as GENA's president.
How It All Came Together
In December 2002, Jenkins put city funds to good use by purchasing the property from the Jacksonville Electric Authority. Fast forward to December 8, 2004, and the community celebrated the park's grand opening ceremony.
The driving force? GENA had been actively beautifying Englewood for years and recognized what the neighborhood was missing - a safe, enjoyable space for local children to play.
What You'll Find There
GENA Park may be small, but it packs a lot into its modest footprint. This well-kept community space offers a playground where kids can burn off energy, alongside picnic areas complete with grills for those weekend family cookouts.
Need a break from the Florida sun? The park's shelter provides welcome shade on those particularly warm Jacksonville days. What's nice about GENA Park is its simplicity - it's clean, inviting, and gives neighbors a pleasant spot to connect.
Getting there is straightforward as the park is located just off Interstate 95. Note that only street parking is available, so you might need to walk a short distance depending on when you visit.
