About the Location
Park Overview
Found in Neptune Beach, Florida, just a short stroll from the ocean, Jarboe Park is a little oasis for the community. With a serene lake at its heart and plenty of green space all around, this park has a bit of everything for everyone.
Over the years, Jarboe has evolved into something of a neighborhood gathering place - where locals catch up, kids play, and visitors can experience Neptune Beach life beyond the shoreline. The park has undergone recent renovations, with upgraded facilities throughout.
Playgrounds
The park offers two freshly renovated playgrounds featuring Kompan equipment for different age groups. If you've got toddlers (especially 4 and under), there's a dedicated area just for them, while the bigger kids (ages 5-12) have their own space to explore.
The older children's playground has a giant climbing contraption with ropes, bridges, slides, spinning seats, and a modern take on the classic merry-go-round. Meanwhile, the younger set can enjoy appropriately-sized slides, swings, and a surprisingly popular shark teeter-totter big enough for several little ones to rock together.
Both play areas have mulch underfoot and while they're mostly sunny spots, you can find a bit of shade here and there when the Florida sun gets serious.
Sports Facilities
Jarboe offers several athletic options for a neighborhood park. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of 8 pickleball courts and 2 tennis courts - all with lighting for evening play and available from 7 AM until 9 PM.
The pickleball courts are a particular hotspot, often filled with players of all skill levels enjoying some friendly competition. During busy times, you'll notice a well-organized system with a paddle rack and 4-on/4-off rotation to keep things fair and moving.
If ball sports are more your thing, check out the basketball courts (including one full-court and one with lower rims meant for younger players) or hit the sand volleyball courts for a more beachy experience without actually being at the beach.
Walking Trail and Exercise Areas
Circling the lake is a paved walking path that's fantastic for a morning jog or an evening stroll. The trail features several fitness stations positioned at intervals, creating a natural circuit training route if you're looking to mix up your workout.
As you make your way around, you'll come across two small pavilions offering a shady spot to catch your breath and watch the park life unfold. No reservations needed - just first-come, first-served simplicity.
For cyclists, there's even a thoughtful bike maintenance station where you can handle quick fixes or adjustments without having to cut your ride short.
Nature Areas and Wildlife
The park includes a butterfly garden, marked by a green ivy archway. Step inside to find flowering plants that attract various butterfly species, and take a moment on one of the hand-painted benches to watch these delicate visitors go about their day.
The lake itself is home to a surprising amount of wildlife - ducks, geese, turtles, and various birds have all found their niche here. Many people enjoy watching the ducks that have claimed the small island near the butterfly garden as their territory.
There's also a community garden on the grounds, but it's not open for casual browsing. Local residents can rent plots for a small fee, and the space occasionally hosts children's events, field trips, and educational tours.
The Neptune House
Standing prominently within the park is The Neptune House, a relatively new addition completed in October 2018. This 2,000 square foot community building serves multiple purposes - you can rent it for private events (it fits up to 100 people), or you might find it hosting community gatherings and activities for seniors.
Amenities
Practical matters are well covered with clean gender-neutral restrooms available during park hours. You'll find picnic tables and seating areas scattered throughout, giving families plenty of options for rest breaks or impromptu picnics.
The parking situation is adequate but limited to 2-hour stays - though that's typically enough time for most park activities. One of Jarboe's biggest perks is its location just a 5-minute walk from the beach, making it an ideal stop as part of a fuller day of outdoor adventures.
