About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away in Jacksonville, Florida, Glen Myra Park is a peaceful retreat for the local community. The park started life with a generous 3.5 acres spread across 20 lots, however it eventually lost 5 of these to the Haines Street expansion. Despite this, it remains a clean, well-kept space where neighbors can unwind and connect.
A Bit of History
Glen Myra's story begins back in 1922 when the White House Land and Lumber Company sold 12 lots to Jacksonville for $5,800 (quite the investment for the time!).
The city expanded the park's footprint with additional acquisitions in 1940 and 1942. After years of community planning, 1993 marked a significant milestone with the construction of a community center that continues to serve residents today.
What You'll Find Here
Kids will appreciate the playground with its safe, designated area for climbing and exploring.
During Jacksonville's warmer days (and let's be honest, there are plenty), the splash pad becomes the park's star attraction. It's always nice to see children enjoying the water on hot days.
The Park Today
Glen Myra received a significant refresh in 2001-2002 with thoughtful additions including lighting for evening visits, walking paths for your daily stroll, and landscaping that enhances the natural beauty of the space. The renovations also brought decorative fencing, comfortable benches, and a serene water feature to enjoy.
These days, Glen Myra Park offers a pleasant green space where Jacksonville residents of all ages can relax amid the urban landscape.
