Tucked between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, Haulover Beach Park spreads across 177 acres of urban oasis in metropolitan Miami, just north of Bal Harbour. Since opening in 1948, the park features 1.4 miles of beautiful beachfront and a surprising variety of things to do.

What we really like about this place is the relaxed atmosphere - the white sand beaches and turquoise waters offer Miami's beauty without the overwhelming crowds. It's a quieter spot where you can actually hear the waves instead of competing with conversations.

Unique Beach Areas

Let's talk about what makes Haulover truly unique - the clothing-optional beach section at the northern end has been officially recognized since 1991. Stretching 0.4 miles, it's actually the largest public nude beach in the United States. Don't worry if that's not your scene though - this area is well-separated, and the atmosphere remains respectful and diverse throughout.

Nature lovers will appreciate the restored sand dunes and palm tree-lined picnic grounds that give the park its postcard-worthy backdrop. And if you're a pet parent, you're in luck! Haulover features both an enclosed dog park and a designated off-leash dog beach area between lifeguard stations 2 and 3. Nothing beats watching your four-legged friend zoom happily through the sand and splash in the ocean waves.

Recreational Facilities

The fun at Haulover extends well beyond sunbathing. Boat enthusiasts can enjoy the marina where you might spot impressive vessels navigating the inlet or catch glimpses of tarpon and other large fish swimming nearby. Kite flying has become something of a signature activity here, with a dedicated area facing Biscayne Bay that catches perfect breezes. The annual Kite Festival transforms the sky into a colorful canvas that draws families from all over - definitely worth timing your visit around if you can.

Rounding out the offerings are a skate park where you can practice your tricks and volleyball courts where impromptu games often break out on weekends. Regardless of whether you're feeling active or just want to watch others show off their skills, there's always something happening.

The Tuesday Food Truck Event happens regularly, where you can find diverse food options in a laid-back, family-friendly setting. While you explore different food options, the kids can run free in the grassy areas, fly kites, or join impromptu games - making Tuesday evenings at Haulover a wonderful low-key outing after work or school.
