About the Location

A Hidden Nature-Filled Space

At the heart of Kendall Indian Hammocks Park lies a beautiful tropical hardwood hammock that feels like a secret escape from Miami's urban landscape. This dense forest canopy doesn't just provide welcome shade on hot Florida days - it's home to a variety of local wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled and you might spot everything from colorful birds and butterflies to raccoons and squirrels that have claimed this space as their own little sanctuary.

If you're someone who enjoys connecting with nature, the walking trails through the 32-acre nature preserve offer perfect opportunities for casual birdwatching or simply appreciating Florida's native plants. These lush, shady paths create a genuine wilderness feel while still being in the city. Just remember to bring mosquito repellent during the warmer months - those little bugs love the hammock as much as we do!

Get Your Game On

The park also offers plenty of options for more active pursuits. Sports enthusiasts have access to three lighted softball fields and a spacious grassy soccer area where local leagues often play. The energy during game days is palpable and worth experiencing even if you're just watching.

Disc golf has found a special home here with three 18-hole courses that offer challenges for players across all skill levels. The courses wind through varied terrain, however you might need to ask around about navigation as some sections lack clear signage.

Perhaps the park's most distinctive athletic feature is its 14,000-square-foot skate park. Designed with nods to iconic skating spots like Philadelphia's Love Park and San Francisco's Embarcadero, it boasts impressive ramps, a vertical wall, and grinding rails that accommodate everyone from beginners to experienced skaters looking to perfect their tricks.

Kid-Friendly Fun

Got little ones in tow? The recently renovated playgrounds are definite highlights. There's one specifically designed for children under five, while another caters to the five-to-twelve age group. The modern equipment blends wonderfully with the natural surroundings while offering plenty of opportunities for climbing, sliding, and imaginative play.

What really stands out is the nature-based playground that works with rather than against the existing landscape. The designers thoughtfully preserved the native live oak trees, creating a play space that encourages kids to interact with natural elements. It's a refreshing alternative to typical plastic playgrounds and tends to keep children engaged for hours.

Stay Active or Just Relax

Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the outdoor fitness zone featuring adjustable tension equipment that works for different ages and fitness levels. There's also a marked one-mile jogging trail that provides a convenient circuit for your morning run or evening walk.

Not feeling so energetic? The park excels at leisure options too. Five covered picnic shelters and a picnic deck canopied by gorgeous live oaks can each accommodate up to 100 people. These spaces come equipped with tables, water, electricity, and BBQ grills - making them fantastic for everything from family reunions to birthday celebrations. You can reserve these areas for special events, which is definitely worth doing for larger gatherings.
