Park Overview

Before it was a park, the land now known as Tamiami Park served as Tamiami Airport, until it was transformed into green space in the late 1960s. Today it spans an impressive 247 acres in Miami, just south of Florida International University's Modesto Maidique campus.

With something for just about everyone, this expansive park has become a go-to spot for both Miami locals and tourists looking to enjoy some outdoor time in the Florida sunshine.

Sports Facilities

If you're into sports, you're in luck. Tamiami Park offers a wide range of athletic options. You'll find fields for baseball, basketball, football, and soccer, plus well-maintained tennis courts scattered within the grounds.

For pickleball players, The park has six lighted pickleball courts that you can reserve for around $25 for two hours. These newer additions have been drawing quite a crowd lately.

One of the park's standout features is its heated Olympic-size swimming pool with 22 lanes. Open year-round, this pool has hosted swimming competitions for more than three decades and remains impressively clean and well-kept.

Rounding out the athletic offerings are volleyball courts and a skate park - so whether you're a team sports person or prefer to do your own thing, there's space for you to play.

Leisure Activities

Not feeling particularly athletic? No problem. Tamiami's paved paths offer perfect terrain for a casual stroll, a morning jog, or a bike ride. The flat landscape makes it especially ideal if you're looking for an easy running route without challenging hills.

Families will appreciate the large children's playground with slides, swings, and play equipment set in a sand area. The park also features generous picnic areas with tables and pavilions you can rent for gatherings. Events and Attractions

On the eastern side of the park sits the Fair Expo Center, home to the annual Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition. This fair draws thousands of visitors each year with its exhibits, rides, and entertainment options.

Beyond the fair, Tamiami Park hosts a diverse calendar of events all year long. You might catch concerts, sports tournaments, cultural celebrations, conventions, or specialty shows. The spacious grounds and Expo Center provide plenty of room for these large gatherings.

Amenities

You can find plenty of parking throughout Tamiami Park, but it can get pretty packed during major events, so you might want to arrive early. Restroom facilities are conveniently located near sports areas and pavilions.

Note that pets generally aren't allowed in the park, with exceptions made for service animals.
