About the Location
A Touch of Naval History
Situated in Orlando lies Blue Jacket Park, sprawling across 75 acres that once housed the Orlando Naval Training Center. For over three decades, this ground shaped thousands of Navy recruits - affectionately called "Blue Jackets" - into sailors ready to serve.
The park's Navy History Wall stands as a thoughtful tribute to this naval legacy. Ten detailed panels walk you through Orlando's Navy story with photos and descriptions that capture everything from the recruit experience to current Navy activities in the area.
You'll also find the Lone Sailor Statue, a poignant memorial honoring those who trained here. It's touching to see veterans return to this transformed space, reconnecting with memories of their boot camp days while appreciating how the park preserves its military roots.
Green Spaces & Recreation
If you're looking for activity or tranquility, Blue Jacket Park offers both. Expansive green lawns, winding walking paths, and a peaceful lake create a great backdrop for escaping the Orlando hustle.
The park's fountain with its decorative bridge installation makes for a pretty focal point - grab a seat on one of the surrounding benches and enjoy the calming water sounds. It's also an Instagram-worthy spot if you're into that sort of thing.
Sports enthusiasts will find plenty of athletic options including baseball fields, soccer fields, softball fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Many fields feature lighting for evening games, and the running track draws fitness buffs looking to get their steps in without battling treadmill boredom.
Family-Friendly Vibes
Kids have plenty of room to burn energy at the playground, which caters to the 3-12 age range and offers blessed shade for those sweltering Florida days. Meanwhile, adults can squeeze in a workout at the partially-shaded fitness equipment area while keeping the little ones in sight.
Packing a lunch? The park's gazebo-covered picnic tables and grilling areas scattered throughout make it easy to refuel between activities. And with all that open space, there's plenty of room for impromptu frisbee games, kite flying, or simply sprawling out on a blanket with a good book.
Community Gathering Spot
Blue Jacket Park pulses with community energy year-round. From charity 5Ks to wedding ceremonies and birthday celebrations, this green space brings Orlando residents together in countless ways.
Four-legged family members are more than welcome here. The wide, paved pathways and open areas make it a dog-friendly paradise where local pups and their humans form their own little community of regular visitors.
With practical amenities like clean restrooms and drinking fountains around the grounds, the park covers all the basics for a comfortable visit. Blue Jacket Park combines a meaningful nod to history with plenty of modern-day recreation opportunities.
