Jackson View Park
About Jackson View Park
Lakeside Escape
Located in Tallahassee, Jackson View Park spans 45 acres of natural beauty along the shores of Lake Jackson. This peaceful area has a variety of options, whether you're interested in water activities or just wanting to wander through Florida's natural landscape.
As you drive in from Monroe Street along Clara Kee Boulevard, you'll be greeted by mesmerizing green hues that set the tone for your visit. The park's lakeside setting provides a tranquil backdrop that offers a nice contrast to city life.
Winding Paths Through History
Lace up your walking shoes for the park's 1-mile nature trail that weaves through part of Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park. You'll stroll under the shade of Tallahassee's iconic live oak trees while spotting native plants and wildlife along the way.
History buffs will appreciate the interpretive trail that passes remnants from Florida's Territorial Period. It's interesting to walk the same grounds where others stood centuries ago, with a mix of shady spots and open clearings that make for a pleasant walk.
Ancient Wonders
The park houses four earthen temple mounds, with two open to the public. These archaeological treasures offer a glimpse into the region's rich historical past and stand as silent witnesses to cultures long gone.
Family-Friendly Features
Kids will make a beeline for the playground with its variety of equipment including swings. While it's a bit of a walk from the parking area, the playground's shady location makes it comfortable even on warmer days.
Pack a lunch and take advantage of the picnic areas scattered within the park. The picnic tables near the playground make it easy to refuel while keeping an eye on the little ones.
Don't miss the observation pier that extends into Lake Jackson - it's a great spot to take in the lake's beauty or watch for local wildlife going about their day.
Open Spaces
A generous open grassy area provides plenty of room for frisbee, catch, or simply lounging on a blanket with a good book. Many locals bring their dogs here for walks, however note that there isn't a designated dog park section.
The park layout is straightforward - shaded areas lie to the left of the parking lot, while the playground and open field are to the right. There is a portable restroom available, but be aware it's located a fair distance from the playground area.
Open daily from 7AM to 8PM, you'll come across the park particularly serene during weekdays when crowds thin out. Whether you're planning a family picnic, walking your dog, or simply seeking a quiet moment by the lake, Jackson View Park offers a beautiful natural setting.
