About the Location
Community Hub
Located in Tampa's Palma Ceia neighborhood, Palma Ceia Lions Park is a pleasant gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. This public space has options for both children and dog owners, whether you're looking to let the kids play or give your four-legged friend some social time. The park welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 7PM, however heads up - the dog park opens a bit later at 9AM on weekends if that's part of your morning routine.
Recreation Facilities
Kids will feel right at home in the playground area with its classic swings and slides. Safety is clearly a priority here, with rubberized flooring cushioning potential tumbles around the play equipment and wood chips softening landings under the swings.
Got a basketball enthusiast in the family? The park's basketball court is ready for impromptu games or solo practice sessions. There's also a generous open green space that's well-suited for tossing a frisbee, kicking a soccer ball, or simply spreading out a blanket for some cloud-watching.
Dog Park
One of the highlights here is definitely the large dog park where your furry companions can run free off-leash. Thoughtful touches include water stations with bowls to keep pups hydrated, some shade trees for those hot Florida days, and often a collection of community-shared toys like tennis balls. It's a great place for dogs to make friends, but you should know it's one open area - there aren't separate sections for small and large dogs.
Amenities
When hunger strikes, head to the covered pavilion with its four picnic tables - a great spot for lunch breaks or small gatherings. The pavilion offers welcome shade, complemented by natural tree cover scattered across the grounds.
You'll find spacious restrooms on site that include practical features like a hand dryer and a changing table in the women's restroom. For peace of mind, especially if you have little ones or pets, the entire park is fully fenced with two entrance gates.
Practical Information
One thing to keep in mind: parking is limited to about eight spaces in the dedicated lot. The surrounding neighborhood streets have restrictions, so it's worth planning your visit accordingly, particularly during peak times. While the park enjoys a peaceful setting in a residential area, you might catch the ambient hum of traffic from the nearby Selmon Expressway - but it rarely detracts from the experience.
