Shady Valley Park
About Shady Valley Park
Natural Escape
Situated in the Pine Hills neighborhood of Buckhead, Shady Valley Park spans 11 acres of green haven in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. Living up to its name, the park features towering trees that create a natural canopy overhead - ideal for escaping those sweltering Georgia summer days.
A small creek winds its way through the grounds, adding a touch of tranquility and representing home to local wildlife, including a few friendly ducks that often make an appearance. Well-maintained walking paths meander throughout, inviting you to take a leisurely stroll through the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Get Moving
If you're looking to break a sweat, Shady Valley offers several options. The large open field provides plenty of space for soccer games or tossing a frisbee, while the paved courts cater to various sports enthusiasts.
Tennis players can enjoy three courts that have also been marked for the increasingly popular game of pickleball - two sports for the price of one! There's also a full-court basketball area, but the courts and nets could use a little TLC in some spots.
Kid-Friendly Zone
Little ones have plenty of room to burn off energy at the spacious playground. With two types of slides for different thrill levels and two types of swings to choose from, there's enough variety to keep kids entertained during repeat visits. The best part? Most of the play area sits under the shade of those magnificent trees, keeping things cool even during peak playtime hours.
The playground design thoughtfully accommodates children of various ages, making it an ideal spot for family outings or playdates.
Good to Know
You'll discover ample parking available when you visit. If you're planning a picnic, note that there's just one picnic table available - so you might want to bring a blanket as backup for larger gatherings.
Heads up - there are no restroom facilities on the premises. Dogs are welcome to join you for walks but must remain leashed, and they aren't allowed on the tennis courts. Unlike some other Atlanta parks, there's no designated off-leash area here.
Neighborhood Hub
Shady Valley Park functions as a neighborhood gathering place, where locals come for both active recreation and quiet moments of nature appreciation. You can easily find it off Shady Valley Drive, conveniently situated between Buford Highway and Roxboro Road.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 11PM. Keep in mind that lighting is somewhat limited after dark, so daytime visits will let you enjoy all the park has to offer.
As with all public parks in Atlanta, remember to keep pets leashed, pick up after yourself, and be respectful of the space so everyone can enjoy this neighborhood retreat.
