Lē'ahi Beach Park
About Lē'ahi Beach Park
A Cozy Park at Diamond Head's Base
Nestled at the foot of the Diamond Head crater, Lē'ahi Beach Park (also called Diamond Head Beach Park) offers a peaceful 1.3-acre escape from Waikiki's bustling scene. This little glimpse of paradise sits on Honolulu's eastern shore where you can experience something increasingly rare in Hawaii - tranquility with a view.
Turn your back to Diamond Head and face the ocean for some truly postcard-worthy vistas. On clear days, you might even spot distant pillboxes punctuating the horizon.
Finding Your Way to the Water
While the park itself features mostly seawall along the water's edge, don't let that discourage you. Follow the narrow coastal path toward Waikiki to discover little pockets of sandy beach with surprisingly clear waters.
You'll often see local fishermen casting lines from the seawall - a testament to the area's good fishing. Swimming isn't ideal here due to the rocky nearshore waters, but if you're into free diving or snorkeling, you're in for a treat. Look for the channel splitting the reef for easier water access. The marine life here doesn't disappoint, and you might even share the water with sea turtles gliding gracefully by.
What to Do When You Visit
The well-maintained grassy area shaded by trees makes for perfect picnic territory. Spread out a blanket, hang a hammock, and let the sea breeze work its magic while you take in Pacific Ocean panoramas stretching along the coastline in both directions.
Many locals come here specifically for sunrise and sunset watching, quiet yoga sessions, peaceful reading, or simply to disconnect from the daily grind.
The park has earned its unofficial nickname as "Wedding Park" for good reason - its picturesque setting makes an ideal backdrop for ceremonies. There used to be a charming bricked area with pillars and a greenery-covered trellis, but this section might now be fenced off.
Before You Go
Keep in mind that this tranquil space trades convenience for serenity. There are no restrooms or showers on site, so plan accordingly. If nature calls, head to nearby Kapiolani Park for facilities and additional parking options.
Parking is definitely a challenge - there's no designated lot for the park. Your best bet is finding street parking just past the park on the opposite side of the road, or about a quarter-mile east if that's full.
While technically open 24 hours, posted signs indicate official closing at 10 PM. The silver lining to the limited parking and somewhat hidden location? You'll rarely find crowds here, preserving the peaceful atmosphere that makes this local favorite so special.
