Maunalani Community Park
About Maunalani Community Park
Breathtaking Panoramas
Perched at the summit of Wilhelmina Rise in the hills of Honolulu, Maunalani Community Park offers spectacular views from a quiet hillside location. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of Honolulu's skyline and Diamond Head Crater.
There's something magical about feeling the cool hillside breeze while taking in these sweeping vistas - it's a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle below. If you're into photography or just appreciate a good view, this is an excellent spot.
Green Spaces & Cultural Touches
The park grounds are well-kept with plenty of green space to spread out and enjoy Hawaii's perfect climate. One of the coolest features is the King Kamehameha statue standing proudly among some impressive large trees that provide welcome shade on sunny days.
What makes this spot extra special is how uncrowded it typically is. While tourists flock to the more famous parks, you can enjoy a peaceful moment here that feels authentically Hawaiian.
Sports Options
Feeling active? The park comes equipped with a well-maintained basketball court where you can shoot some hoops and a tennis court surrounded by high fences to keep your game going without constantly chasing balls down the hill.
These facilities are open to everyone, and you'll often find locals enjoying a casual game or practice session. The tennis courts seem to be particularly popular with neighborhood residents.
Family Fun
Got kids in tow? The colorful playground area provides an excellent spot for little ones to burn off energy while you relax nearby. Just note that parts of the playground occasionally undergo maintenance.
The picnic area is ideal for family gatherings, with its neatly trimmed grass and those incredible views of the city and Diamond Head as your dining backdrop. Pack a lunch and make an afternoon of it - the combination of play space and scenery makes for a wonderful low-key family day out.
Practical Info
You'll discover restrooms available for use that are generally clean but pretty basic - they get the job done when nature calls.
Be aware that formal parking is limited to about four stalls (including one handicapped spot). Most visitors end up finding street parking along Sierra Drive near the entrance, which is usually not a problem given the park's under-the-radar status.
Visiting Details
The park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 10PM. Early birds can tackle the uphill journey for a morning workout, while evening visitors are treated to spectacular sunset views over Honolulu.
Located at 4625 Sierra Drive, Maunalani is nestled in a residential neighborhood that adds to its local charm. Its somewhat hidden location means you'll experience a more authentic side of Hawaiian life compared to the touristy spots downtown.
