Palolo Triangle Mini Park
About Palolo Triangle Mini Park
Your Neighborhood Chill Spot
Situated in the Palolo Valley neighborhood of Honolulu, Palolo Triangle Mini Park is that little green oasis you might walk past daily but appreciate having around. It's nothing fancy - just a humble community space where locals gather, kids play, and everyone gets a little break from the concrete jungle.
Fresh Beginnings
May 2022 marked a new chapter for this park when its longtime landmark - a Chinese Banyan that had stood guard at the entrance to Palolo Valley - had to be removed after losing its battle with three different pest infestations. In its place now stands a young Ali'i Banyan tree, carrying on the leafy legacy for future generations.
Quirky Layout
As you might guess from its name, the park rocks a triangular shape that sets it apart from your typical square or rectangular green spaces. There's a simple open grassy area where you can spread out a blanket or just sit and watch the world go by - perfect if you're waiting for someone or just need a moment to breathe.
What's Here
The local favorite feature is definitely the basketball court, where neighborhood games regularly unfold. If you've got little ones in tow, you'll appreciate the manageable size - not so big that toddlers can disappear from sight, but enough room for them to burn off energy. Note that there are no restrooms here, so plan accordingly.
Behind the Scenes
Like other public spaces around Honolulu, this little triangle is under the care of the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Parks and Recreation. They're the ones making sure the grass gets cut and the space stays usable. The park could definitely benefit from more benches and some additional greenery - something many regulars have mentioned - but it serves its purpose as a simple community space just as it is.
