History and Origin

The park has roots that stretch back to the mid-20th century when it was created to serve residents of the Cabrini Green public housing area. City planners worked alongside the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago to carve out this green space - a collaboration that shows how different parts of the community came together to prioritize outdoor recreation. In 1977, it officially became part of the Chicago Park District family, cementing its place in the city's network of public spaces.
