Originally part of land owned by hotel proprietor Henry Kolze in the late 19th century, Merrimac Park now serves as a neighborhood gathering place. On June 18, 1939, the park was the site of a neo-Nazi rally attended by thousands of people, marking a controversial moment in the park's history.
