About Mozart Park in Chicago
Mozart (Amadeus) Park is a 5.22-acre public park located in the Logan Square community of Chicago, Illinois. The park's southern border touches Armitage Avenue, while its western border is one block east of Pulaski Road. Established in 1914, it was the first of the Northwest Park District's thirteen parks and was named after the world-acclaimed Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) based on a popular vote by local school children.
The park features a fieldhouse designed by Albert A. Schwartz, who went on to design other Northwest Park District facilities. The current fieldhouse contains various amenities including a fitness center, gymnasium, and kitchen. Air-conditioned club rooms are also available for rent.
Outdoor facilities at Mozart Park include a junior baseball field, a softball field, a combination football-soccer field, four basketball standards, and a playground. The park offers a range of programs and activities for different age groups, including aerobics, basketball, seasonal sports, soccer, softball, and sports club programs.
Mozart Park is known for its community engagement initiatives. It hosts a free monthly community drum circle on the third Friday of each month. During the summer, the park participates in the Movies in the Parks series, notably showing Spanish-language films with English subtitles.
The park also offers programs for tots and preschoolers, as well as a Senior Citizens Club. In the summer, youth can attend a six-week day camp, and there's a popular Teen Leadership camp option as well.
