Connors Park

Tranquil Urban Oasis

Tucked away at 861 North Wabash Avenue, Connors Park is a little green space in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. This triangular pocket of nature might be small at just 0.34 acres, but it offers a great breather from the towering high-rises that surround it.

Dating back to 1877, this park has been quietly serving Chicagoans since before the automobile, eventually finding its way under the care of the Chicago Park District in 1957.

Park Features

Bordered by Chestnut, Rush, and Wabash Streets, the park centers around an elegant trellis structure complemented by thoughtfully designed landscaping. The fountain at its heart adds a soothing soundtrack to your visit, while benches scattered throughout invite you to sit and stay awhile.

The park's mature trees are perhaps its most magnificent feature - especially that impressive elm that provides cooling shade in summer and creates a striking silhouette against winter skies. While you won't find swings or slides here, kids often gravitate toward the open area around the fountain, turning it into their own improvised playground.

Keep an eye out for the quirky signpost that's become something of an Instagram hotspot - you'll likely spot visitors snapping photos with it as a backdrop.

History and Community Role

This little park has worn many names over the years, including Oak Park and Arbor Rest, before settling into its current identity in 1970. It was named after William J. Connors, a dedicated Illinois state senator who served seven terms.

Today, Connors Park offers a refreshing green space in the middle of urban life. Clean and well-maintained, it's where locals come to breathe and tourists stumble upon a moment of calm. It's an excellent spot to people-watch or simply take a break from exploring the city.
