About Riverwalk Park

A Riverside Haven

Tucked along the West Branch of the DuPage River, Riverwalk Park emerged in 1981 as Naperville's 150th birthday gift to itself. Since then, it's become a central feature of the community, known locally as the "Crown Jewel of Naperville."

The park unfolds across 1.75 miles of brick-paved pathways that meander alongside the river - excellent for a morning jog, an afternoon stroll, or simply finding a quiet moment with nature. Tall trees line these paths, offering welcome shade in summer and a canvas of colors come fall. The DuPage River flows peacefully through it all, where you might spot ducks paddling about, birds flitting between branches, and if you're observant, the occasional water snake slipping through the clear waters.

Bridges & Historical Touches

Charming bridges, including covered ones, dot the landscape, connecting different parts of the park while providing perfect spots to pause and gaze at the river below. These bridges transform into something magical during the holidays when they're illuminated with twinkling lights. Around the park, you'll notice shepherd's crook light poles - a thoughtful nod to Naperville's heritage as DuPage County's oldest settlement.

One landmark you can't miss is the Millennium Carillon housed in the imposing Moser Tower. Stop by at the right time, and you'll be treated to melodic tunes ringing from the tower's bells, adding an unexpected soundtrack to your visit.

Things to Do

Whether you're looking for activity or relaxation, the park offers both. When the weather warms up, you can rent paddle boats and kayaks on a small pond connected to the river. It'll cost you about $12-17 for a 20-40 minute adventure, with boats that fit up to four people.

Next door, Centennial Beach offers swimming lanes and floating platforms where you can soak up some sun. Kids will gravitate toward the modern playground with its safety-focused padded surfaces suitable for different age groups.

Fishing enthusiasts can cast a line from various spots along the river, while the open grassy areas invite impromptu frisbee games or simply lounging with a good book.

Art & Remembrance

As you explore, you'll encounter outdoor sculptures and meaningful memorials scattered within the grounds. Take a moment at the 9/11 Memorial or the Veterans Wall honoring local service members - quiet spaces that add depth to the park experience.

Practical Comforts

You don't need to cut your visit short for lack of amenities. Clean, heated restrooms can be found near the playground and beach areas. When hunger strikes, numerous picnic areas with tables and benches await, some covered for shade or rain protection, and many offering prime river views.

Bringing your four-legged friend? The park welcomes dogs on leashes and even provides special water fountains for them, along with conveniently placed waste bag stations.
