About Tall Grass Greenway
Trail Overview
The Tall Grass Greenway is a lovely linear park and trail system nestled in Naperville, Illinois. Stretching for 4.04 miles, this green corridor runs from Vermont Cemetery Preserve in the west all the way to Naperville-Plainfield Road on the eastern end.
This natural haven is a joint effort between the Forest Preserve District of Will County and the Naperville Park District, with the Forest Preserve District taking care of about 1.07 miles of the trail.
Trail Features
The Tall Grass Greenway Trail lives up to its name with beautiful stretches of golden grasses that dance in the breeze, creating a peaceful natural escape. The flat, paved path winds through open prairie landscapes and alongside residential areas, offering a smooth, even surface that's welcoming to everyone, regardless of your fitness level.
The trail conveniently follows the ComEd powerlines right-of-way, providing an uninterrupted journey through this suburban oasis. For your safety, there's a pedestrian overpass that takes you across State Route 59, but you'll encounter several at-grade road crossings along the way.
Wildlife and Nature
Keep your eyes peeled as you travel along the greenway - it's home to various birds and wildlife that might make an appearance during your visit. The natural setting offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Need a moment to catch your breath or simply soak in the surroundings? You'll discover benches and rest areas thoughtfully placed along the trail, excellent for a short break or some wildlife watching.
Connectivity
The Tall Grass Greenway doesn't exist in isolation. At its western end, it connects to the Normantown Trail at Vermont Cemetery Preserve, extending your adventure possibilities. Head east, and you'll link up with the DuPage River Trail via a paved path that runs north along Naperville-Plainfield Road before turning east and south along 95th Street.
Along the way, the greenway passes through Frontier Park, a popular recreational spot for locals and visitors alike.
Access Points
You can hop onto the Tall Grass Greenway from several convenient locations. If you're coming by car, there's parking available at Vermont Cemetery Preserve, which also offers vault toilets and water facilities.
Looking for alternative parking? You'll discover additional spots behind Neuqua Valley High School and at Frontier Park, which comes with its own set of amenities.
