Garvin Park

Historic Legacy

Established in 1915, Garvin Park covers approximately 80 acres and is known for its naturalistic landscape design. Its layout, characterized by winding paths, grassy meadows, and indigenous tree groves, reflects the picturesque park movement of the early 20th century.

The park includes a five-acre lake, commonly referred to as Evansmere, which acts as a focal point for both aesthetic and recreational purposes. Several Works Progress Administration (WPA)-era structures, such as a bandstand and concrete and stone bridges, highlight the architectural artistry of the period.

One of the standout features near Garvin Park is Bosse Field, which is adjacent to the park. Opened in 1915, Bosse Field is the third-oldest professional baseball stadium still in regular use in the United States, only surpassed by Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago.
