About the Location

History and Development

Hamilton Park is located at the intersection of Spring Street and Cherokee Road in Fort Wayne, Indiana, spanning 16.5 acres as a community park with a rich history. Established in 1930, the park derived its name from the Hamilton family, who played a significant role in Fort Wayne's early banking history.

Over the years, the park has undergone significant updates, including a major redesign in 2000 to incorporate a water retention basin. This redesign brought enhancements such as improved playgrounds, a new baseball diamond, and a paved walking path.

Sports Facilities

The park is home to three baseball diamonds situated toward the west end, available on a first-come, first-served basis or reservable for events. Tennis players can enjoy the tennis court, while pickleball enthusiasts benefit from six dedicated outdoor courts with permanent nets.

Family-Friendly Amenities

For younger visitors, Hamilton Park features three distinct playground areas, one of which is dedicated specifically to infants and toddlers. A pavilion provides shaded space for gatherings, and picnic tables are scattered throughout the park for outdoor dining.

Trails and Artwork

The park has a walking path encircling its perimeter, measuring 0.55 miles for a full loop or 0.75 miles when utilizing the center path to create a figure-eight route. Visitors can also enjoy a new mural by local artist Suzanne Rhee and the Born Learning Trail, an educational path designed for pre-K children and their caregivers.

Natural Setting

Beyond its facilities, Hamilton Park creates a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere with lush green spaces and tranquil surroundings. Its blend of recreational opportunities and scenic beauty makes it a cherished destination for both locals and visitors.
