About Lions Park
A Slice of Fort Wayne History
Tucked away at the corner of Carew Street and Hazelwood Avenue, Lions Park has been Fort Wayne's neighborhood retreat since 1953. This 14.4-acre green haven was generously donated by The Central Lions Club of Fort Wayne and has been a local favorite for nearly 70 years now.
You'll find this charming park in a peaceful northside neighborhood, just a stone's throw from Hazelwood Post Office and Fire Station Number 10. If you're wandering through, take a moment to check out the Lion monument - a thoughtful dedication to Henry and Wilhelmine Franke that adds a touch of historical significance to your visit.
Not Your Average Playground
In 2015, the park's play area got a magical makeover that bookworms and fairy tale lovers will appreciate. The playground structure tells two classic Hans Christian Andersen stories: "The Ugly Duckling" on one side and "The Little Mermaid" on the other.

This creative design isn't just fun - it adds a bit of storytelling to playtime. Kids can explore multiple jungle gyms, swing their hearts out (including on a pretty awesome giant swing at the back of the park), or go for a spin on various rotating equipment. With its mulch surface, the playground welcomes little adventurers of all ages.
Recreation for Everyone
Whether you're a sports enthusiast or just looking to move your body, Lions Park offers several options. Challenge friends to a match on the tennis courts (complete with a hitting wall for solo practice), shoot some hoops on the basketball court, try your hand at pickleball, or play ball on the baseball/softball field.
One of the park's natural highlights is its abundance of mature trees, creating pockets of shade throughout - a blessing during Indiana's warmer months. The open grassy areas are meant for tossing a frisbee, setting up a casual soccer game, or simply sprawling out with a good book.
The Practical Stuff
Lions Park has all the essentials for a comfortable outing. There's a pavilion with picnic tables when you're ready to refuel, and the restrooms are kept clean with soap and paper towels (always a plus for a public park).
Own a local business? Promote it right here
You won't have to worry about staying hydrated with drinking water available on the grounds, and parking is plentiful. Dog parents, your furry friends are welcome to join - just remember to keep them leashed.
A Community Gathering Spot
The well-maintained facilities make this park a natural choice for all sorts of get-togethers. The park works well for birthday parties, family reunions, or casual picnics.
What makes Lions Park special is its under-the-radar vibe - it's typically less bustling than other city parks, offering a quiet escape for those in the know. The pickleball courts have even developed their own regular community, adding a friendly, social element to this local park.
