About the Location
A Brief History & Where to Find It
Situated on Indy's near east side, Clayton & LaSalle Park has been a neighborhood fixture since 1972. Spanning a cozy 4.32 acres, this neighborhood green space sits conveniently close to the Marion County Community Justice Center.
The Playground Scene
The recently renovated playground is definitely one of the park's highlights, featuring modern equipment that's mostly geared toward the 5-and-up crowd. You'll discover classic swings, a pretty cool spinning teepee, and a jungle gym complete with a wobble bridge that keeps kids entertained for hours. If you're bringing tiny tots along, just know that the options for the very little ones are somewhat limited.
Splash Zone
When temperatures climb, the park's colorful splash pad becomes the place to be. With its cheerful concrete surface and variety of water sprays, it's particularly great for younger children who might find the main playground equipment a bit challenging. It's always fun to see kids enjoying themselves as they dart through the water on a hot summer day.
What Else You'll Find
The covered picnic shelter comes equipped with a charcoal grill, excellent for cooking while the kids play. Benches are scattered around the grounds, giving parents plenty of vantage points to keep an eye on the action.
The open, grassy fields surrounding the main attractions regularly host impromptu football and soccer games. While much of the park basks in sunshine, the thoughtfully planted trees along the perimeter offer welcome patches of shade when you need a break from the heat.
The Local Experience
Many neighbors consider this space a "secluded place" - it's modest in size but well-used by locals. You'll rarely find it overcrowded, making it an ideal spot for families looking for a low-key outdoor experience close to home.
Good to Know Before You Go
While the park is listed as having restrooms, the permanent facilities aren't always accessible. Sometimes you'll find portable toilets instead, so it's good to be prepared. Also worth mentioning - the splash pad has occasionally faced maintenance issues, so you might want to have a backup plan if water play is the main attraction for your visit.
