Highland Park

Highland Park, situated in the heart of the Holy Cross neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana, spans 4.09 acres of hilly, semi-shaded parkland. This historic park is one of the oldest in the city and is renowned for providing stunning views of the downtown Indianapolis skyline. As one of the highest points in the city, Highland Park holds an important place in the community's history and offers a peaceful retreat for visitors.

The land for Highland Park has a storied history tied to prominent Indiana figures. It was once part of "Highland Home," the estate of Governor Noah Noble and his family. In 1898, the last member of the Noble family sold the land to the city under the condition that the estate be demolished and the land converted into a park. The bricks from the estate were reused elsewhere in the city, while the park became a cherished green space in the neighborhood.

Today, Highland Park is a popular destination for outdoor activities and community gatherings. Its open lawn areas and shaded spots provide a scenic backdrop for relaxation, picnics, and recreation. The park is especially celebrated during the Fourth of July, as residents gather here to enjoy picnics and watch the city's fireworks displays. The park also features a recently installed sculpture, *Stele*, which honors community contributions made by Kelly Wensing, a neighborhood leader. Highland Park thus serves as both a recreational space and a symbol of local history and pride.
