History and Overview

Taggart Riverside Park, located on the near northwest side of Indianapolis, Indiana, is an expansive urban park with a rich history and variety of recreational opportunities. Spanning 862 acres along both banks of the White River, it is one of the largest parks in Indianapolis and even exceeds the size of New York City's Central Park.

Established in 1899, Taggart Riverside Park was originally designed as part of the city's park and boulevard system, featuring contributions from landscape architects such as George Kessler. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Indianapolis Park & Boulevard System Historic District.

Landscape and Features

The park boasts a diverse landscape, including open fields, mature trees, native plants, and scenic river views. The historic Taggart Memorial Amphitheater serves as one of the park's cultural highlights, hosting concerts, plays, and community events.
