Splash Into Fun

Let's talk about the splash pad - definitely a highlight at Hayes Park! Running from May 25 through September 3, 2024, it's a fantastic spot for kiddos to cool off when Iowa brings the heat. The water features turn on with sensors or buttons (pretty neat!), and you can enjoy this refreshing oasis daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. On those sweltering summer days, there's really nothing better than watching little ones giggle through the sprinklers.

The park's playground might not be the fanciest in Cedar Rapids, but it gets the job done with various play structures that keep children entertained. It's one of those simple-but-sweet play areas where kids somehow always find a way to have a blast. Baseball fans will appreciate the baseball diamond that hosts the Jr. J-Hawks Baseball Program - a great opportunity for local kids to develop their skills and experience team sports.

There's one picnic table available, so while you won't be hosting any massive reunions here, it's fantastic for a small family lunch or a quick snack break between playground adventures.

Community at Its Heart

During summer months, Hayes Park transforms into a hub of activity thanks to the Rollin' Recmobile program. Every Monday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, this mobile recreation unit rolls in, bringing free lunches and organized activities for neighborhood kids. It's a wonderful way to keep little ones engaged while school's out.

The local library also joins the summer fun, offering additional programs that complement the Recmobile activities. These initiatives bring people together and add more dimension to this modest neighborhood park.

A Neighborhood Green

Hayes Park has that quiet, unassuming charm typical of small neighborhood parks. For many locals, this park holds generations of memories - grandparents who once played here as children now watch their grandkids explore the same grounds.
