About the Location

Sports Facilities

Tomahawk Park represents a local baseball hotspot in Cedar Rapids. If you're planning to catch a game here, remember to bring your own chair or blanket, as permanent seating is pretty sparse.

Playground Area

At the back of the park, you can find a modest playground complete with swings, slides, and a jungle gym - nothing fancy, but enough to keep kids entertained for a while.

Heads up: the playground equipment might be a bit challenging for toddlers, so keep an eye on the little ones if you bring them along.

Picnic Facilities

Need a spot for lunch? The park offers several picnic areas with tables and benches, most nestled under shady trees - great for escaping the summer heat while enjoying a sandwich.

You can find plenty of seating options scattered strategically within the park, so you're never too far from a place to rest your feet.

Natural Features

A charming little stream meanders through part of the park, requiring a quick hop across a water crossing to reach certain areas. When the water's calm, this shallow stream becomes an impromptu play spot where kids can splash around.

The park also includes some natural, less-developed areas to explore - just remember to check for hitchhiking ticks afterward if you venture off the beaten path.

Location & Overview

Situated in northwest Cedar Rapids, Tomahawk Park is part of the city's broader park system. It's generally well-kept and clean - nothing extravagant, but a peaceful, simple green space offering basic amenities for a relaxed day outdoors.

Parking & Access

The parking situation here is somewhat limited, which can be tricky during busy times. The internal roads are on the narrow side and don't have dedicated walking paths, so be mindful when navigating the park on foot.

Recent Development

In 2017, the park underwent a significant transformation as part of a development project. Several trees were removed to make way for the Plaster Athletic Complex, which was designed to include softball and baseball facilities, along with a football/soccer stadium, track, and additional parking.

This development has considerably changed the park's original character and available amenities.
