Jordan Park

Splash Into Fun

The wading pool at Jordan Park is a total hit with families - tiny tots splashing around in shallow water while parents relax nearby. It's a fantastic spot when temperatures climb and the kids need to burn off some energy. Right next to it, you'll discover a splash pad with water features that add an extra dimension of aquatic play. Jordan Park is in Des Moines, Iowa, and serves as a refreshing escape from the summer heat.

Play and Picnic Paradise

The park features a cozy playground designed specifically for children 5 to 12 years old. While it's not massive, it's just right for little adventurers to climb, slide, and make new friends in a safe outdoor environment.

Need a place for lunch? The park's picnic shelter comes equipped with two picnic tables and a BBQ grill nearby - excellent for everything from impromptu sandwiches to full-on family cookouts. The open green spaces surrounding the area give you room to toss a frisbee or simply stretch out on a blanket with a good book.

Good to Know

Heads up about the facilities - there are restrooms in the shelter area, but you can only access them when someone has rented the shelter. Otherwise, they're locked, so plan accordingly!

You'll come across street parking around the park rather than a dedicated lot. It's very much a neighborhood spot - quiet, well-kept, and away from the hustle and bustle of busier areas in the city.

Beyond the Boundaries

What makes Jordan Park extra special is its connection to the Jordan Creek Greenway, a sprawling 275.5-acre green space that stretches east to west across Des Moines. This means your park visit can easily turn into a longer adventure if you're feeling ambitious.

The greenway boasts a 7-mile paved multipurpose trail that's beloved by cyclists, skaters, and walkers alike. Back at the park, the basketball court and paved paths round out your recreational options, giving you plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors.
