About the Location

A Glimpse Into the Past & Present

What's now a lush urban retreat was once just a simple cornfield with a wooden fence around it. Heathwood Park took shape in the early 1900s as the Parkwood residential area developed around it. Located at the corner of 10th Street and L Road (or as locals call it, Parallel Parkway), this 49-acre green space provides a peaceful escape from city life.

What You'll Find Here

The park's expansive greenery and trail network offer plenty of nature to explore, though you might notice some paths could use a little TLC.

Got kids? The playground provides a space for little ones to burn off energy, and during summer months, the splash pad becomes the place to be for cooling down. Just keep in mind these two favorites are in different sections of the park - you'll need to use the walking paths or street to get from one to the other.

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the baseball fields and tennis courts, while skateboarders can show off their skills at the skate park. For more relaxed gatherings, scattered picnic areas and grilling stations are available for outdoor meals with family and friends.

Family Time

Heathwood Park is popular with families. The wide, open grassy spaces are great for impromptu games of frisbee, catch, or whatever your crew enjoys.

When temperatures climb, the splash pad provides a refreshing spot where kids can cool off - and it's free, which is always a plus on hot Kansas City days.

Getting There & When to Visit

Situated in the heart of Kansas City, Heathwood Park is easy to reach whether you're a local or just passing through. The park's moderate climate means you can enjoy it year-round, experiencing the beauty of all four seasons as you walk, play, or simply unwind.

The gates are open daily from 6AM to 10:30PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy everything this historic green space has to offer.
