Harrison Park

Park History

Harrison Park, located in Wichita, Kansas, is a public recreational area acquired in 1957 and named after its donor, William Benson Harrison. The park features softly rolling hills and has been thoughtfully landscaped with a well-maintained buffalo grass turf and a variety of planted trees.

Fishing Opportunities

One of the park's notable features is its one-acre fishing pond, constructed in 1993 with grant funds provided by the State of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks under the urban lake development program. The pond is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish, making it the only public fishing location in southeast Wichita.

Fitness and Recreation

For fitness enthusiasts, the park offers a paved 0.75-mile exercise and fitness trail. Along this trail, visitors can find several "Health Beat" outdoor fitness systems designed to work out various major muscle groups.

The park also includes sports facilities such as tennis courts, a softball diamond, and a rugby field, which serves as the home of the Wichita Barbarians Rugby Football Club.

Water Features

In 2023, a splash pad was installed in the park as the final phase of an aquatics master plan. The design of the splash pad is centered around a scorpion that shoots out water, adding a unique and playful element to the park's amenities.

The splash pad operates daily from 10 am to 8 pm during the summer season.
