About the Location

A Piece of Wichita's Past

Tucked away in Wichita's landscape since 1946, this park honors Henry Schweiter, a Swiss immigrant who left his mark on the city as a builder, developer, and philanthropist. What was once part of Schweiter's southeast Wichita farm has transformed into a popular community space where locals gather and play.

The park has weathered its share of changes - including damage from a tornado in 1999 - but has remained a constant for generations of Wichitans who've made memories here through the decades.

Paths to Wander

When you visit, you'll notice the thoughtful blend of natural elements and modern features. The walking trails with their smooth, rounded concrete edges make for an easy stroll, jog, or bike ride without the jarring transitions you might find elsewhere.

Need some room to breathe? The expansive green spaces offer plenty of room to spread out. Whether you're tossing a frisbee, kicking a soccer ball around, or just looking for a patch of grass to sit with a good book, you'll find plenty of room.

Get Your Game On

Sports enthusiasts will feel right at home here. The basketball/multi-use court and tennis court both have lighting for evening use. There's also a grassy softball diamond complete with dugouts for more organized play.

For the little ones, the playground features sand safety flooring and diggers that are popular with kids between 3-8 years old.

The Extras That Matter

Planning to stay awhile? Several picnic tables and an open shelter with a drinking fountain are available for lunch breaks or family gatherings. The shelter occasionally hosts community events, including free concerts that bring neighbors together.

Drinking fountains are strategically placed around the park - a welcome sight during those hot Kansas afternoons. A charming touch is the collection of public books available for browsing during your visit, adding a bit of literary leisure to your park experience.

Just a heads-up: there aren't any public restrooms available in the park. Fortunately, you'll find local businesses and a QuickTrip nearby if nature calls.

Where Community Happens

The clean, peaceful atmosphere at Schweiter Park attracts many local families who visit regularly on weekends. If people-watching is your thing, grab one of the benches at the corner of Hillside and Lincoln for the best views.

On some weekday evenings, you might notice community food services taking place - just one of the ways this space serves the neighborhood beyond recreation. The park strikes that perfect balance between organized activities and casual hangouts, however it might get a bit lively when sports practices are in session.

Schweiter Park offers a green space in the middle of city life where you can enjoy nature, stay active, or simply spend some downtime.
