Emery Park

History and Origins

Established in 1955, the park was donated to the city by Julia Emery and Dr. Frank Emery in memory of their parents, Dr. and Mrs. F.W. Emery. This act ensured the land's dedication to public park and recreation purposes, providing a substantial outdoor environment for community use.

Outdoor Activities

The park offers a variety of facilities catering to different outdoor activities. For sports enthusiasts, there is a basketball/multi-use court, although it is not equipped with lighting for nighttime use.

Biking is a notable activity at Emery Park, particularly with the addition of a BMX bike track constructed by the Group Effort Associated for Races (GEAR) in 1987. This lighted track features a 1,250-foot course with an asphalt starting hill and a concession stand.

Natural Features and Amenities

Nature lovers can enjoy fishing at the park's pond, a serene spot nestled amidst its expansive greenery. The park is also dotted with picnic facilities, including an open shelter equipped with lighting, electrical outlets, seven picnic tables, and a nearby restroom for convenience.

Families with young children will appreciate the playground, which is designed with a sand safety surface.

Unique Attractions

Another unique feature of Emery Park is the Wichita R/C Raceway, a remote-control car racing track that adds a distinctive recreational option for visitors. The park is easily accessible, with a 72-stall paved parking lot available for guests.

The park maintains a focus on accessibility. Some improvements have been planned or implemented to ensure compliance with ADA guidelines, such as accessible paths and drinking fountains.

Spanning 30.30 acres on E. MacArthur Road, this versatile space is designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of visitors, from sports enthusiasts and families to those looking for simple outdoor relaxation.
